<image:title>About - Chonyi Wodser became a monk at the age of 7 at the Namdroling Monastery, where he received spiritual training. In 1982 aged 12, he was part of HH Penor Rinpoche’s entourage which visited the Himalayan regions. In Chonyi Wodser’s own words “I was so fortunate to be one of HH Penor Rinpoche’s personal assistants, travelling widely with him, receiving his empowerments and teachings; we were always there, assisting him during ceremonies and I was so blessed to be able to practice countless times with him - very few have had this opportunity.“ In September 2017 His Eminence Gyangkhang Rinpoche, one of the heads of Namdroling Monastery, came to London, and asked Chonyi Wodser to take responsibility for the Palyul Centre UK. Since then he has acted as Director, working alongside Lama Dawa and the Palyul sangha, preserving the legacy of HH Penor Rinpoche in the UK by inviting authentic teachers of the Nyingmapa school and holding regular mediation courses and practices.</image:title>

      <image:title>H.E. Chogtrul Rinpoche</image:title>
<image:caption>Chogtrul Rinpoche was born at beautiful Darjeeling in the Northeast of India in 1966. His father, Pacung Bengpo is a chieftain of Pacung (the west of Sichuan of today), confers a county. Mother, Dorje Lhamo, grew up from a family of gentry. Both parents are pious Buddhists, who always support and shield the Nyingmapa tradition. In 1965 winter, His Holiness the 3rd Pedma Norbu Rinpoche invited Dudjom Rinpoche, 16th Gyalwang Karmapa and Dalai lama to enter meditation jointly for looking for the reincarnation of his guru, Chokyi Dawa Chogtrul Rinpoche. Then observed the view of Darjeeling and other related Chogtrul Rinpoche matters. With these signs, these great throne holders unanimously recognized the child as the successive reincarnation of previous Chokyi Dawa Chogtrul Rinpoche. When Chogtrul Rinpoche was three years old, Dudjom Rinpoche took him to Nepal. After Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche recognized this child as the reincarnation of Chokyi Dawa Chogtrul, Chogtrul Rinpoche received all the teachings, empowerments and transmissions from Dudjom Rinpoche. At the age of four, Pedma Norbu Rinpoche took Chogtrul Rinpoche back to Namdroling Monastery in south India bestowing the Coronation Ceremony for Chogtrul Rinpoche by the tradition of Palyul Dhartang. Chogtrul Rinpoche is one the “heart sons” of HH Pedma Norbu Rinpoche and one of the main Palyul tulkus. He studied at Namdroling Monastery under the guidance of the third Drubwang Pedma Norbu Rinpoche. He also received teachings from other great masters like Dudjom Rinpoche, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Dodrupchen Rinpoche, Chadral Sangye Dorje Rinpoche, Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche, Thinley Norbu Rinpoche and so on. Until twenty years old, Chogtrul Rinpoche have received and accomplished all the important practices, empowerments, transmissions and teachings of Nyingma tradition, including ocean-like transmissions of kama and terma, Seal Mahamudra-Great Perfection Ati Yoga. Then Chogtrul Rinpoche has reached the highest great achievement of Guru Drag-purba (Guru Dragkila) transmission. In 1983, held the Molan Qianmo ceremony (wish world peace) for the first time in holy land Bodh Gaya (the place of Buddha reaching realization) of India. From then, the annual ceremony must be done every year by Tibetan Buddhist. Later bearing promise of spreading Buddda’s dharma given to his guru Pedma Norbu Rinpoche, Chogtrul Rinpoche came to Nepal, and established a Buddhism school and a retreat center in the north suburb of Khatmandu in five years. So far, many lamas and disciples and the followings accept the teachings and retreat in this school. In 1987, Chogtrul Rinpoche came to Taiwan for holding cremation ceremony of Jampal Lodro Rinpoche Come. Then he was invited to Karma Kagyu Monastery in Tainan to instruct them to build the first stupa in Taiwan. Then Chogtrul Rinpoche travels around all places in Taiwan and devote to activities of spreading the precious dharma around this dharma-drought area. In these years, Chogtrul Rinpoche travels to Si Chuan province in China and returns to Dhartang monastery for being invited eagerly by monks, previous disciples and pious residents, he offered substances they need and gave them teachings and empowerments. Now Chogtrul Rinpoche decides to raise funds for building a Dhartang retreat center to benefit those aspirants that they have received the profound teachings and could accomplish the practices! Chogtrul Rinpoche is also a scholar of great attainments in grammar, for this reason, he translates in Chinese and corrects many mistakes of translations of Tibet sutras and scriptures. The instructions of Chogtrul Rinpoche are all- embracing. He teaches and studies with disciples not only Buddhist dharma, but such as the making of prayer wheels, carving, calligraphy, embroidering, cooking, sipping tea, stone arts etc. His teachings have imperceptibly influence of the followings and disciples close to him in life and are different according to the level of their experience and potential. At present, he is visiting different countries to share his wisdom experience on Buddha dharma to benefit everywhere.</image:caption>

<image:caption>His Holiness the Fifth Karma Kuchen Rinpoche was recognized by His Holiness Dujom Rinpoche and Penor Rinpoche as the unmistaken incarnation of previous Karma Kuchen Rinpoche, Karma Thegchog Nyingpo. He was invited to Namdroling Monastery where Penor Rinpoche looked after him and provided him with basic religious education. Karma Kuchen Rinpoche excelled in all the monastic training and mastered all the traditional knowledge of The Palyul Lineage. He also received numerous Nyingma Teachings from great masters such as His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Penor Rinpoche. Keeping in view of his wonderful qualities of a master, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche appointed him as the Head of the Palyul Mother Monastery in Tibet in 1994. On 14 August 2000, he was formally enthroned as the lineage holder of the Palyul Tradition and is now the 12th throne holder of The Palyul Lineage. Penor Rinpoche on many occasions appreciated his efforts in holding the pure lineage of Palyul tradition and dissemination of Buddha Dharma in the Land of Snows. The significant achievement of Karma Kuchen Rinpoche since his arrival in Tibet was that he had built many temples, stupas, prayer wheels, images of deities and other objects of veneration and faith. Under the direction of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, he has built a very grand and magnificent temple within the monastery premises. Of the many remarkable qualities that he possesses, the most striking quality is his strict and pure observance of all the vows of a monk. He is thus the embodiment of pure conduct in these degenerate times</image:caption>

      <image:title>HE Khentul Gyangkhang Rinpoche</image:title>
<image:caption>The Fourth Gyangkhang Rinpoche was born in India. H.H. Penor Rinpoche, H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche and H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche recognized him as the authentic incarnation of the Third Gyangkhang Rinpoche. At the age of four, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche invited him to stay in Namdroling Monastery and thereafter looked after him as his own child. When he was 15, he received the esoteric teachings of Tantra thus laying the foundation for the higher practices. He entered Ngagyur Nyingma Institute (Shedra), a branch of Namdroling Monastery and an advanced college of Tibetan Buddhism where he studied general Buddhist Philosophy as well as the distinct Nyingma Teachings. He also studied Tibetan grammar, poetry, and Tibet’s political and religious history. Unlike other students, he was brilliant in his studies. In his fifth year in his university, Gyangkhang Rinpoche displayed his scriptural knowledge by giving a lengthy discourse on Sangwa Nyingpo (Magical Net Tantra, a Mahayoga Teaching) in front of His Holiness The Fourteen Dalai Lama and an assembly of thirty thousand people both lay and ordained from all the different religious traditions of Tibet. He also debated on this subject and emerged victorious. His Holiness the Dalai Lama praised his wisdom in front of all and offered him a khata, a traditional scarf, encouraging him to hold, sustain and disseminate the teachings of Lord Buddha for the benefits of all beings. He received the empowerments, oral transmissions and pith instructions on the whole Kama and Terma teachings (the distinct Nyingma Teachings of the Transmitted Precepts and the Rediscovered Treasure Teachings) from His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Dodrubchen Rinpoche, Jadrel Rinpoche, Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche, and Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche. He specially received the distinct teachings of Palyul Tradition including the Namchoe Teachings from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. He not only received Ngondro (Preliminary Practices), Tsalung (Winds and Channels), and Dzogchen (Great Perfection) teachings but also practiced them perfectly. He also learned the Buddhist philosophy mainly the sutra and tantra under the guidance of many great Khenpos and masters of his time. In 1994, under the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya, Gyangkhang Rinpoche received the vows of full ordination from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. At that time, he was given the name Thupten Mawai Nyima Jigme Singye Chogle Nampar Gyalwai De. In 1995, he completed the nine years course in the institute and considering his high level of knowledge, Penor Rinpoche bestowed him the title of a “Tulku Khenpo” and recognized him worthy of a dharma teacher who can guide others towards the path of enlightenment. Before becoming enthroned as with the title of a Khenpo, he gave teachings at many occasions in Namdroling of America and Asian countries like Hongkong, Taiwan and others. The teachings that he gave included Buddhist teachings on Bodhicitta, meditation and philosophy. He also gave empowerments and oral transmissions. Gyangkhang Rinpoche has realized the meaning of Lord Buddha’s teachings both the sutra and tantra. On several occasions, he has represented His Holiness by giving advice, instructions and teachings in many dharma centers around the world. At present, he is teaching in the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute (Shedra) and also shouldering the monastic responsibilities.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche</image:title>
<image:caption>Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche was born in 1954 in a village near Lhakhang Dzong in the southern region of Tibet bordering Bhutan called Lhodrak. From his birth, his parents had a strong feeling that they should place him in the nearby monastery of Nub Namkha’i Nyingpo. The head lama, Namkha’i Nyingpo Rinpoche, was the tulku of one of the twenty-five disciples of Guru Padmasambhava. Along the deep Himalayan valley were many caves and holy places associated with Guru Padmasambhava and several of the great tertons who, in later generations, rediscovered his teachings. Among them were Guru Chowang, Terton Ratna Lingpa and Terton Padma Lingpa. The village was on the main trade route from Lhasa to Bhutan and the people were relatively prosperous. In 1962 Khenpo and his family fled through the mountains and made their way through Bhutan to India. After arriving in India, he and his sisters were sent to a government boarding school for Tibetans in Darjeeling, West Bengal. There he began his formal education. The curriculum included the usual primary school subjects as well as English, Hindi and basic dharma teachings. At the age of ten he took the robes of a monk and received the vows of a novice (ge-tsul). He continued his education up to the eighth grade. Year after year, he was always at the head of his class. In 1969 he entered the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan studies at Sarnath, near Varanasi. There he followed a nine-year curriculum in Buddhist studies and general education under his principal teacher, Khenpo Palden Sherab, and other masters. His class work included Sanskrit, English and intensive studies in the textual traditions of Indian and Tibetan Buddhism. He graduated with the degree of Acharya in 1978, ranking first overall among the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism represented at Sarnath. His Holiness the Dalai Lama honored his achievement with the award of a silver medal. After graduation he was invited to teach at Palyul Namdroling Monastery at the Tibetan settlement in Bylakuppe, near Mysore in South India. For several years he was engaged in training the young monks and teaching in the monastic college, theNgagyur Nyingma Institute (Shedra). In 1983 he was enthroned as a khenpo by His Holiness Pema Norbu Rinpoche. In the Nyingmapa tradition, a khenpo is a professor of Buddhist studies. Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso has received all of the major lineage empowerments and transmissions of the Nyingmapa school, including the Dudjom Tersar from Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche; the Longchen Nyingthig Yabshi, and Nyingma Kama from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche; and the Rinchen Terdzod and Nam Chos from Pema Norbu Rinpoche. He has done intensive dzogchen practice under the guidance of Penor Rinpoche and other eminent masters including Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche and Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche. Pema Norbu Rinpoche has authorized him to represent the monastery and to teach, to confer empowerments and to give personal instruction in Buddhist practice. Khen Rinpoche has traveled and taught extensively in America, in Taiwan, and among the overseas Chinese communities in Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. His open, direct and thorough style of teaching has been very well received. He recently gave the empowerment of the Gyud Sangwai Nyingpo (Guhyagarbha Tantra) followed by extensive teachings on Mipham Rinpoche’s commentary, Odsal Nyingpo. This was the first time that this fundamental Nyingma tantra was explained in such great detail in the USA.</image:caption>

      <image:title>H.E. Mugsang Kuchen Rinpoche</image:title>
<image:caption>Mugsang Kuchen Rinpoche was born to Penpa Dorjee (father) and Sonam Yangzom (mother) in Nepal, on the tenth day of the fourth Tibetan Month with miraculous signs. At the age of two, His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche and his Holiness Drubwang Penor Rinpoche recognized him as the unmistakable reincarnation of Chogtrul Kunzang Sherab. From the age of three, Penor Rinpoche looked after him with great compassion and care. When he reached the age of four, he recieved the Rinchen Terzoed Empowerment cycle from His Holiness Drodrub Rinpoche. Beginning from age five, he learned to read and write in Tibetan and began training in the distinct rituals of the Palyul tradition. Subsequently, he received the Kama Empowerments, instructions on Ngoendro, Tsa Lung and Dzogchen directly from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. Thus he has upheld and continued the supreme activities of his predecessor. He has studied common sciences such as grammar, poerty , logic as well as the uncommon science of Buddhist philosophy at Ngyagyur Nyingma University at Namdroling in South India. Mugsang Monastery, Mugsang Thubten Sangngag Choeling, is located in a sacred place in Tibet southwest of Kathok Monastery. “Mug” means sluggish and “Sang” means clear. Thus “Mugsang” means to clear oneself from sluggishness. The monastery is built at the location that Terton Migyur Dorje spent his final days, passing into the empty sphere of truth while sitting in meditative equipoise.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche</image:title>
<image:caption>Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche was born in 1936, at Riphu, a place in Dege Jomda, in the Kham Province of Tibet. When he was eight, he studied reading and writing Tibetan from his uncle Lama Choesang while herding cattle. At fourteen, he went to Lhasa and studied under masters and scholars of all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1953, Shechen Kongtrul Rinpoche bestowed novice vows upon him. In 1959, he fled from Tibet to India. He met H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, from whom he received most of his teachings. On various occasions, he has received many teachings and oral transmission from H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche and H.H. Penor Rinpoche. In 1968, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche invited him to come Namdroling to teach the Dharma. Thought at that time, the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute was not established, Khenchen spent a few years teaching the traditional common and uncommon fields of study to small monks of the monastery. Since the establishment of the Institute in 1978 until nowadays, Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche has been teaching in this institute out of compassion and kindness to the students. The teachings that he has dispensed include the common traditional sciences of Tibetan grammar, spelling and poetry. Among the uncommon traditional studies, he has taught many teachings that illustrate the distinct view, meditation, conduct, and fruition of the Nyingma Lineage. For the benefit of future generations, he has composed many books on Buddhist philosophy. All in all, he has taken the responsibility to manage the institute with great compassion to this day. Hence his kindness is unfathomable.</image:caption>

Khen Rinpoche has thoroughly studied, researched and mastered the Tibetan Studies that cover the vast and profound teachings of Lord Buddha (both Sutra and Tantra), as well as the common studies of Tibetan language, poetry, and Tibet’s temporal and religious history. He is a highly qualified Buddhist scholar and senior professor of Ngagyur Nyingma Institute in South India. Upon the attainment of these, Khen Rinpoche went to Shechen Monastery and conducted Buddhist teachings over a period of four years. <image:title>Khenchen Namdrol Rinpoche</image:title>
<image:caption>Khenchen Namdrol Rinpoche was born in 1953 at Dege to Tsedrung and Choetso. At the age of seven, in 1959, he fled Tibet and reached Bylakuppe, South India. In 1968, he did Bum-Nga (the five hundred thousand accumulations of the preliminary practice). From Nyoshul Khenpo, a great Dzogchen Master, he received the teachings of the Thirty-Seven Practices of Bodhisattvas), Vishestava (Praise in Distinction to Buddha), and Mipham Rinpoche’s Tong Thun Sengei Ngaro (Notes on Tathagarbha entitled Roar of the Lion). Khenpo Khedrub taught him the Mipham’s Commentary to Abhidharmakosha, Commentary to Madyamakalankara, Condensed Tenet Concepts from the Treasury of Wish Fulfilling Gem, and Mipham Rinpoche’s Notes on Chandrakirti’s Madhyamakavatara. He also received the teachings on Mipham Rinpoche’s Notes on Nagarjuna’s Mulaprajna and other Madhyamika treatises. Later, he went to Sikkim for five years, where he received various teachings on Prajnaparamita, Madhyamika, Pramana and other sutra teachings from Khenpo Tsondrue. He also received Tantra teachings including Longchenpa’s Trilogy of Self-Liberation and Key to the Treasure – a general commentary to Guhyagarbha Tantra. At 25, according to the wishes of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, along with Khenpo Tsondrue, he returned to Namdroling Monastery. In 1978, since the establishment of Ngagyur Nyingma Institute, he has been a key person in administering and teaching at the institute. In 1983, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche conferred the degree of a Khenpo on him. In 1988, he traveled to Serta, in Kham Province Tibet, to receive teachings from H.H. Khenpo Jigme Phuntsog Rinpoche. At that time he received instructions on the three different commentaries to Guhyagarbha Tantra: Mipham Rinpoche’s Osel Nyingpo (Clear Light Essence), Longchenpa’s Chogchu Munsel (Clearing the Darkness of Ten Directions), and Dodrubchen Tenpai Nyima’s Dzodkyi Demig (Key to the Treasure). Regarding Dzogchen Teachings, he received Chetsun Nyingthig (Innermost Spirituality of Chetsun), as well as Khenpo Jigme Phuntsog’s own instructions on Dzogchen, Liberation in the Palm of the Hand, Patrul Rinpoche’s commentary to Three Words that Strike the Vital Point, Pointing the Finger to the Nature of Mind and many others. Again in 1992, Khenpo Jigme Phuntsog bestowed him Longchenpa’s Treasury of Precious Meaning of Words, instructions on Khandro Nyingthig (Innermost Spirituality of Dakini) named Illuminating the Profound Path, Mipham Rinpoche’s Vital Instructions on Dzogchen Tekchod (Cutting Through) and many others esoteric teachings. Since the establishment of the institute, he has taught on various subjects including Chandrakirti’s Madhyamakavatara (Entering the Middle Way), Mipham Rinpoche’s Commentary to the Ninth Chapter of Bodhisattvacharyavatara called Ketaka, Mahayanasutralankara (Ornament of the Mahayana sutra), Mipham Rinpoche’s Nge She Dron Me (Lamp of Definite Understanding), Chidon Dzod Gyi Demig (General Commentary to Guhyagarbha Tantra called the Key to Treasure), Lochen Dharmashri’s Sangdag Gongyen (Ornament of Vajrapani’s Intentions – Commentary to Guhyagarbha Tantra) and many other distinct Nyingma Teachings and also many great works of Indian and Tibetan scholars. Hence, Khenpo has contributed greatly through his work in the administration and by teaching in the institute with only the single intention of the preservation of dharma in these degenerate times. In 1998, under the guidance of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, Khenpo Namdrol established the Palyul Retreat Center, Samten Osel Ling in Pharping, Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. Khenpo now spends much of his time at this center, as well as teaching abroad and at the institute.</image:caption>
